Taylors Bulbs Narcissus Mount Hood (6)

A true classic among white daffodils, 'Mount Hood' is prized for its large, shapely trumpet blooms that open a soft creamy yellow before fading to pure milky white as the flowers mature. Bred in Holland in the 1930s and still a firm favourite today, it's held onto its Award of Garden Merit for good reason — few trumpet daffodils match its clean, elegant form.

Reaching around 40-45cm tall, it's a robust, reliable grower that suits borders, patio containers, or naturalising in drifts beneath trees and shrubs, flowering in April. Plant the bulbs in autumn at one and a half to two times their own depth, in moderately fertile, well-drained soil that stays reasonably moist through the growing season, in full sun or partial shade; the bulbs and sap can irritate skin, so gloves are worth wearing at planting time. Deadhead as flowers fade and leave the foliage to die back naturally, which feeds the bulb for next year's display.
