Polystichum tsussimense 13cm
Polystichum tsussimense (Korean Rock Fern)
Bring elegant, year-round texture to shaded corners of the garden with Polystichum tsussimense, a compact evergreen fern prized for its glossy, dark green fronds and neat, arching habit. Native to the woodlands of East Asia, this hardy little fern forms a tidy clump of finely divided foliage, adding a soft, architectural presence to borders, containers, and woodland plantings alike.
Fully hardy throughout the UK, Polystichum tsussimense thrives in full or partial shade and prefers a moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Reaching a compact 30-40cm in height and spread at maturity, it's an excellent choice for underplanting beneath shrubs and trees, or for adding structure to a shaded rockery. Once established, it requires minimal maintenance, simply removing any tired fronds in early spring to make way for fresh new growth.
Team with hostas, hellebores, and heucheras for a classic shade-loving planting scheme that holds interest across every season.
