Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver' 3ltr
Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver'
An RHS Award of Garden Merit shrub, 'Flaming Silver' is grown above all for its dazzling spring foliage: vivid scarlet new growth matures to green boldly edged in silvery-white, giving weeks of colour before the small, creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers even open in branching clusters. It's a genuine multi-season performer, with striking foliage colour through spring and reliable evergreen structure the rest of the year.
Grow in full sun or partial shade, in moist but well-drained, acidic soil, choosing a sheltered spot away from cold winds and harsh early morning sun — this helps protect both the flowers and the tender new foliage. Ericaceous compost is essential where garden soil isn't naturally acidic. A compact, upright shrub, it typically reaches 1–1.5m in height with a slightly narrower spread of 0.5–1m over ten to twenty years, making it well suited to mixed borders, woodland planting, or a large container. As with other pieris, all parts are harmful if eaten, so gloves are worth wearing when handling or pruning.
