Part of the popular EverColor series, Carex oshimensis 'Everest' is a hardy, evergreen sedge forming neat mounds of arching, glossy green leaves edged in bright silvery-white, giving the effect of being frosted with ice year-round. Feathery, inconspicuous brown flowers appear in summer, though the plant's real value lies in its variegated foliage, which provides valuable colour and structure through every season, particularly in winter.

A compact, dense, mound-forming variety, 'Everest' typically reaches around 30–45cm in height and spread, making it superb as ground cover, edging, or in containers, and equally at home in city gardens, cottage borders, or rock gardens. Very hardy, it grows well in full sun or partial shade in any fertile soil that stays moist but well-drained. It's low maintenance, needing no regular pruning; simply comb through with your fingers in winter to remove dead foliage, rather than cutting the leaves, which can leave unsightly brown tips.
